Orissa drew their three-day East Zone Ranji Trophy match against Assam at Barabati Stadium in Cuttack today. However, Assam collected five points for taking first-innings lead, while Orissa settled with three points.
The highlight of the match was an unbeaten knock of 229 by Assam batsman Surjuram Girdhari. Opting to bat, Assam rode on the majestic knock of Girdhari to declare at 411 for seven. In reply, Orissa were bowled out for a paltry 82 to concede a lead of first-innings lead of 329 runs.
Following on, Orissa were 149 for four in their second innings at stumps on the final day. Ram Prakash Kapoor was the savior for Orissa, hitting 22 in the first innings and 93 in the second. Haji Iqbal and Bisuddhananda Jena made their first-class debut in this match for Orissa.
